Who we are

In OpenSciEd classrooms, students learn science through discovery. Developed by leading science researchers and educators, our instructional model is designed to align with how students learn best. Our curriculum is phenomena-based and centers student-led questioning, investigating, and problem-solving, with teachers supporting students as learning facilitators, rather than lecturers. This approach fosters a classroom culture where everyone matters and is heard, building unique skills for educators and students, and empowering them in their education journey.

How we provide curriculum-aligned PL

Workshops

Implementing instructional materials that demand a paradigm shift in instruction for teachers is a multi-year effort. Whether materials are implemented in a unit-replacement strategy, or all in one year, OpenSciEd has 14 days of professional learning to support implementation.

PLCs

OpenSciEd utilizes a collaborative planning structure through Basecamp throughout the process of facilitating professional learning with school districts. While working with schools and teachers, OpenSciEd provides ongoing options to support teachers in areas unique to their context. These often include guided planning and reflection in a virtual synchronous format.

Consultations

LEA’s can contact OpenSciEd to co-plan professional learning support aimed at meeting their staff where they are at, with the goal of moving them forward. We provide learning experiences that accommodate your preferred learning format and systems of support for continued learning in a community of collaborative educators.
