Who we are

The MQI Coaching model uses an evidence-based observational instrument, the Mathematical Quality of Instruction (MQI) rubric, as a lens for critically analyzing math instruction. Using classroom video and the MQI rubric in one-on-one coaching cycles, teachers self-identify areas for instructional growth and commit to realistic action steps. MQI Coaching was developed and tested as part of a research study and revealed that participation significantly improved the quality of math instruction and increased teacher retention.

This partner's approach and services

How we provide curriculum-aligned PL

Coaching

Through a teacher-driven approach, coaching conversations encourage teachers to analyze segments of their own instruction objectively using the language of the MQI rubric to find ways to elevate practice through incremental changes – making sure to place a focus on how these elevations can be used in planning future lessons.

PLCs

MQI Coaching offers video-based professional learning communities. Facilitators lead participants in MQI-grounded conversations, reflecting on video of teachers' own instruction and/or stock clips from the MQI Video Library. This enables participants to create a shared language and share instructional practices to elevate instruction.
