Who we are

Our programs tap the expertise of educators and scientists from research, cultural and educational organizations, and colleges and universities to model inquiry-based science, engineering, and technology curriculums. To be able to successfully teach inquiry-based science, teachers need to be immersed in model programs as both “students” themselves and educators. By participating in Wade Institute programs teachers learn how to develop and implement hands-on, minds-on, inquiry-based curriculum supported by trained and experienced PL providers.

How we provide curriculum-aligned PL

Workshops

Full OpenSciEd implementation requires at least 4 days of PL conducted in intensive or individual sessions. We offer 4-day OpenSciEd Launch PL incorporating a unit specific deep dive, and can build on this foundation with additional programming on specific elements of the OpenSciEd model, or deep dives into additional Units.

Coaching

Post delivery of OpenSciEd Launch PL, small group coaching in minimum 2 hour sessions, targeting specific OpenSciEd elements, are available. Based on teacher or administration needs and interests, these sessions can include expanded learning and/or planned structured work time, and can be delivered before or during an OpenSciEd Unit’s implementation.

PLCs

Our PLC-based programs center on student achievement through analysis of student work and subsequent instructional responsiveness. As such these sessions are best delivered during an OpenSciEd Unit’s implementation, and center on analysis of student notebooks and progress trackers for formative assessment, and mid-point or end unit summative transfer tasks.

Consultations

Consultation is driven towards administration supporting teaching staff in delivery of OpenSciEd units. Topics include interpretation of MA DESE OpenSciEd Scope & Sequence, development of customized Launch programs, unit delivery timelines, and access to unit materials.
